Mara Williams Lyme Disease specialist, integrative care and holistic healing

"Each person has unique needs, and that is where my expertise can be of most help to you. Consider speaking with me, I can help!"

HELP IS HERE!

I am available for advising consults. I can be a second opinion for you or guide you to the best therapies you might need. I can recommend nutritional support to treat the many side issues in Chronic Lyme like detoxification, rebuilding the Immune system, healing the Gut, decreasing Inflammation, and balancing hormones. These are the key to becoming well and to recovery.

Once you have had chronic Lyme for over 2 years the detox pathways become inefficient or simply do not work anymore. Restoring them is a key to health. For example: using proteolytic enzymes to break up fibrin and biofilm, using supplements to heal the intestinal lining, decreasing inflammation without using pharmaceuticals which have dangerous side effects, balancing hormones, and reclaiming your immune system to work for you rather than the bugs. These steps are essential before you treat to lower bug populations so that your body is able to rally to help the process. If your liver, lymph, and kidneys do not drain efficiently, then you will feel sicker when you treat. If your body belongs to you again, the treatment will be easier and will require less time. Bugs put out neurotoxin when they die and this can make you feel terrible. It is essential that the toxins are able to leave the body via the stool and urine rather than recirculate when pathways are blocked.

More and more I work without drugs or pharmaceuticals as their side effects can make a problem worse. There are exceptions to this though. If you have an acute tick bite then antibiotics are recommended. If you have had lyme for less than 1-2 years, and depending on symptoms, antibiotics are a good choice. Some drugs like cholestyramine, antifungals, and antiparasite meds are important when used at the best time given each persons symptoms. Each person has unique needs and that is where my expertise can be of most help to you. Consider speaking with me. I
can help!

I am  licensed in Washington as well! I have the ability to both see patients and prescribe medicines.

Patient Testimonial:

"Mara Williams is a real asset to my health care team. She takes a very individualized approach with her patients, and will work with you to find the very best treatments.

As a Lyme Literate practitioner, Mara can help determine the best approach to treating this complicated illness which may be a combination of different therapies. Using the whole world as her tool box, Mara selects from many healing modalities which include herbal remedies, Chinese and Arevedic medicine, as well as homeopathics, German biologics, and of course, prescription drugs( Western Medicine).

Since she is highly intuitive, compassionate and grounding, Mara has helped me cope with many challenges on my healing journey. Mara remembers which labs to order, and is terrific at keeping all the orders she writes specific. That helps you as well as other health care professionals you may be seeing.

Mara has experienced the challenge of helping more than one family member with ongoing health problems which means she understands what you may be going through as well as how to deal with it.

Mara recently left Gordon Medical Associates, the leading Lyme and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome practice in the West to be able to devote more of her time to you, and to meet the needs of her family.

If you have questions regarding how to do your treatment, or are interested in hearing about alternative modalities -- or need someone who not only hears you, but listens to you, I highly recommend this excellent practitioner to you." ~Joanee Webb

I would love to work with you!

Lyme Light Radio with Mara Williams and Dr. Wayne Anderson. A Focus on Natural Healing

With a background in education, Dr. Wayne Anderson understands the role of teaching in medical care. Working with grade school students he saw that diet and environment impacted student's mood and behavior. This sent him back to school for training as a Naturopathic doctor. A growing focus on natural healing approaches in clinical practice in Oregon caused him to broaden his assessment and treatment skills and he earned the designation of Physician Assistant.

For two decades, Dr. Anderson practiced in a busy community-based family medical center, treating individuals and families from birth to old age. His emphasis on patients experiencing chronic illness grew. As he became aware of the prevalence of chronic Lyme disease and related conditions he realized the important part they play in chronic illness.

In 2002, Dr. Anderson left family practice to work with Eric Gordon MD. Now he has a practice with a concentration on chronic illness, using tools and experience from both conventional and integrative medicine. At GMA, with a growing focus on Lyme disease, he has developed a deeper understanding of chronic illness, its treatment, and the frontiers still available as possible solutions.

A curious and dedicated clinician, Dr. Anderson is committed to the ongoing process of learning and teaching. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Anderson maintained his initial focus on teaching. For over 20 years he taught medical students at Touro Osteopathic Medical School, and supervised residents from Sutter Hospital and interns from the Physician Assistant programs in the clinic setting. He is also a popular speaker on the topics of Lyme disease and neurotoxin illness.

For more than 25 years, Dr. Anderson has known that his patients are partners in the process of learning about and treating their illness, whether they choose conventional or alternative medicine or a combination of both. He listens to understand each patient's strengths and challenges and improve his effective interaction with them. He sees every person as complex, integrated, and unique, and believes that treatment should optimize health and well-being.

An avid film historian and true music enthusiast, Wayne spends his spare time watching movies, old and new, and listening to a wide selection of music.

Frequency Specific Microcurrent is an exciting new way of treating nerve and muscle pain and many other conditions using specific frequencies and micro amperage current. There are hundreds of practitioners in the US, Australia, Ireland, and Canada using FSM to create miraculous changes in patients to reduce pain and improve health. Most of the time FSM produces immediate and dramatic changes in tissue that makes it an indispensable tool in treating pain and many other health concerns. Carolyn McMakin, MA, DC is the creator of the frequencies and protocols used with FSM currently. she has traveled the world teaching the use of FSM.

Carolyn is the clinical director of the Fibromyalgia and Myofascial Pain Clinic of Portland, Oregon. She developed Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM) in 1995 and began teaching FSM courses in 1997. In addition to maintaining a part time clinical practice, she teaches seminars on the use of FSM in the United States, Australia and Europe. She has lectured at the National Institutes of Health and at medical conferences in the US, England, Ireland and Australia on the subjects of fibromyalgia and myofascial pain syndrome, fibromyalgia associated with cervical spine trauma and on the differential diagnosis and treatment of pain and pain syndromes and sports injuries. Her peer-reviewed publications include papers on the FSM induced changes in inflammatory cytokines and substance P seen with FSM treatment of fibromyalgia associated with spine trauma, treatment of pain in the head, neck and face, and low back caused by myofascial trigger points, delayed onset muscle soreness, shingles and neuropathic pain. She treats and consults with various NFL and MLB teams and players on the use of Frequency Specific Microcurrent in the treatment of sports injuries. Her textbook, titled Frequency Specific Microcurrent in Pain Management was published by Elsevier in 2010.

Join the conversation with Eric Gordon, MD discussing complex chronic illness and integrative therapies. "My deep respect for the individuality of my patients is the heart of my practice. The point is to carefully listen to each patient and correlate their subjective experience with pertinent objective laboratory tests, to determine unique treatment guidelines that allow the innate wisdom of the body to overcome illness and restore good health."

What Dr. Eric Gordon emphasizes is listening to his patients. "I believe my patients. Their description of what is going on in their body is the most accurate way we have to assess what is going on with them. I interpret the information they present, and blend it with laboratory results and imaging and other tests to determine a protocol that is customized to their condition."

Patients with poorly defined chronic illnesses react differently to all types of environmental stressors and medical interventions. While one patient may respond well to a particular protocol, other patients may not respond at all, or even have a negative reaction.

Dr. Gordon knows there is an interwoven complexity to these illnesses. There is a layering of the body’s adaptations to environmental toxins and infections from pathogens that is unique to every person, depending on their genetic susceptibility, organ vulnerability, toxic exposures, medical history and life circumstances. The body’s various biological systems - immune, endocrine, neurological, gastrointestinal and so on - influence each other and are influenced by each other, both in the development and progression of illness, and also its resolution.

When illness has been present for a long time, a patient’s body is almost invariably dominated by the sympathetic nervous system; it is in a state of hyper-vigilance, a constant ‘fight-or-flight‘ mode. Dr. Gordon knows to begin with gentle interventions to help the body find a place of rest and safety. These initial steps allow the parasympathetic nervous system to function appropriately, to let the body find its way, and start healing itself.

This necessitates an eclectic approach. Dr. Gordon says, "As the components of a person’s chronic illness reveal themselves, so will treatment direction. Some patients may immediately benefit from intravenous therapies. Others may respond initially to energetic modalities, such as Frequency Specific Microcurrent or Photon Stimulation. Some patients may require antibiotics while, for others, herbal or homeopathic remedies may be more suitable. Everyone has different supplementation requirements, and needs to follow different detoxification strategies."

In addition to seeing patients in his practice, Dr. Gordon has organized and served as medical advisor and moderator for a series of medical symposia in Northern California. From 2007-2009, these intensive five-day meetings brought together extraordinary faculties consisting of approximately 30 leading international academic medical researchers and cutting-edge clinicians, respectively focusing on CFS, Lyme, autoimmune diseases and autism.

For Dr. Gordon, however, knowledge and understanding does not come primarily from research, but from interaction and direct experience with his patients. He is first and foremost a private practice physician. His deep respect for the biochemical individuality of his patients is at the heart of his approach.
